Autumn lovers and fans of the eerie, rejoice! Hearth Fires by talented authors Bibiana Krall and Veronica Cline Barton is a six story collection of hauntingly delicious tales that add a layer of sophistication to the classic ghost story-by-the-campfire. Dark (in a good and entertaining way), macabre, and bewitching, each story sweeps the reader into a setting famed for supernatural enchantment: New Orleans, Savannah, Salem, Big Sur, Scotland, and Paris.
These two writers are wordsmiths and the tales they pen are lush, lyrical, and intoxicating. Characterization is superb, all story people ideal for the supernatural element of their given story world. They feel real, as do the mysterious threads that wind through this incredible collection. Readers familiar with the settings will be instantly transported, while those unfamiliar will feel as if they’ve visited these places. Both sets of readers will fall instantly under Hearth Fires’ spell, charmed by the magic in the pages, the power of each story.
Fans of the authors’ other books will enjoy seeing a well-loved character turn up here and there, also a clever and smile-worthy nod involving a hot pink cap – read the stories to spot it. Above all, know that this is a collection that dazzles on every page.
Bottom line: Hearth Fires celebrates the spooky. If you can enjoy it on a chilly autumn night with a fire going and wind whistling round the eaves, all the better. If not, no worries, these tales will conjure the season’s magic just for you. Highly recommended.

This is the sixth and final book in Author Asbrey's The Innocents Mystery Series. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series--the characters are a delight; the plots adventurous; and the descriptions of the settings and technologies engaging and innovative for the time period. Many dangling dilemmas are resolved in this final tale--and I wish nothing but the best for the characters as they enter a new phase of their fictional lives. Well done on a brilliant series, Author Asbrey!
