“...to hold twilight or watch it darken, describes the pleasure we take in pausing to observe as day slips into night.
To stand at our window, wrapped in the half-dark and watch the day disappear... is a moment of hygge.”
― Louisa Thomsen Brits
There's a bit of chill in the air these days and I for one, am loving it!
It's that special time of year when we can bring out the sweaters and faux furs; put on the pots of soups and stews; and heat the oven up for making delicious, baked goods.
The Danes and Swedes champion Hygge and Lagom practices as a lifestyle. I'm embracing the philosophy of surrounding yourself with the things you love and finding just the right balance with a passion this year! Achieving it doesn't have to be fancy, expensive, or massive in scale. Enjoy the cozy, little things...
Now that the evenings are turning darker earlier, it's the perfect time to bring out the candles and twinkle lights.
We have the purple and orange lights of Halloween in the rooms at Cherrywood Hall West. I love the amethyst glow. 🎃
The firepit out back is getting lots of use at night. It's a great place to kick back and enjoy the crisp air once the sun goes down.
We have a few road trips planned in the next month--I can't wait to sit by the fire with my sweet nieces in central California and snuggle up in the mountains at Big Bear.
Next week, my literary season of Hygge begins with the November 1st release of A Novel Noel: Rikkhe St. Claire Hygge & Bisous Holiday Mysteries. Who's ready to sit back and experience holiday tales of mystery and magic with Rikkhe St. Claire and her family and friends? They have a story to tell you...
Speaking of celebrating...
Bibiana Krall and I are absolutely thrilled to have received the #FirebirdBookAward Grand Prize Win for Wicked Mist! It's an unbelievable honor and we are so grateful! Huge thank you to SPEAK UP TALK RADIO and this fabulous book contest with a charitable twist! Check out the award winners and stock up that #TBR! 💀🌹
Adventure in a dark world this week from the writers of Twitter...
Author K.R.M. Morgan, The New Republic, Book 2: The Qliphothic Gates, 5 ⭐
Dark forces have been unleashed, sending the world, and Tavish Stewart spiraling into the depths of evil. Everything has been corrupted, including heads of church and state, business empires, and the minds of the masses. The stakes are high for this new world order, and no one is safe from their ravages.
The evil masterminds are determined to bring their ancient ideologies and its demons into power. Across the world, Tavish and his dwindling group of intelligence warriors have been targeted, imprisoned, their reputations in ruins. The odds are not in their favor--will anything be able to stop the cascade of catastrophic events in time to save mankind and the civilizations we once knew?
Author Morgan has written a chilling thriller that exposes a lethal plan that will culminate in an ultimate struggle for dominion. The deadly scenarios, historical references, and evil quests will leave you squirming and shaking your head as they unfold. A note to readers--there are dark moments in this story that include the summoning of evil entities from other realms that may be unsettling to some. For fans of suspense, international intrigue, and dark thrillers--this is a page-turning read you won't want to miss, highly recommended!
Next up in the reading queue:
A Dream Cabin in the Woods, More Hygge Inspiration...
Now that we have the bookcases installed in our living room turned library, I've been enjoying looking through the decorating books I've collected over the years (in some cases, decades!). The pictures above and to the left are from a Southern Living book I received as a gift in the early 80s. These pages tell the story of a log cabin given an extensive remodel in Tennessee. I've been looking at these pictures for forty years now, still loving every detail. Perhaps, the Hygge hviske is trying to tell me something...
Welcome to my world. Enjoy this Halloween weekend, friends!
Crowns and Kisses,
Mystic Magination Night!
By Patricia L. Cisco
On one mystic, magic night,
Jack O Lanterns glowing bright,
kids with bags of candy sweet,
roam door to door and street to street,
all dressed up for trick or treat!
Wizards with wands, pirates with hooks,
monsters and clowns with spooky looks,
kings and queens with capes and crowns,
a princess in her royal gown,
witches with warts and fairies with wings
movies stars with sparkling rings,
vampires with fangs that bite,
ghost that boo all dressed in white.
Imaginations taken flight,
on that one mystic, magic night.
Oh, the fun of Halloween,
be young or old or in between!
