HO-HO-HO! 🎀🎄 Just a few more days before the merriest day of the year arrives. For this special edition Christmas post, I wanted to share a holiday favorite poem penned by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Its words reflect the angst and beauty of this turbulent world, and brings to me the hope of the season. Wishing you and yours a peaceful, joyful, loving day. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
I heard the bells on Christmas Day Their old, familiar carols play, And wild and sweet The words repeat Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
And thought how, as the day had come, The belfries of all Christendom Had rolled along The unbroken song Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
Till ringing, singing on its way, The world revolved from night to day, A voice, a chime, A chant sublime Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
Then from each black, accursed mouth The cannon thundered in the South, And with the sound The carols drowned Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
It was as if an earthquake rent The hearth-stones of a continent, And made forlorn The households born Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
And in despair I bowed my head; "There is no peace on earth," I said; "For hate is strong, And mocks the song Of peace on earth, good-will to men!"
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep: "God is not dead, nor doth He sleep; The Wrong shall fail, The Right prevail, With peace on earth, good-will to men."
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

P.S. 'Tis the season for winter reading and books make the perfect gift! Stay tuned for next week's post--it's my top reads for 2023, I can't wait for you to meet the authors and read their books! I also wanted to give a shoutout to the 2022 authors (Bibiana Krall, Cathleen Maza, John Dolan, H.E. Wilburson, John Anthony Miller) whose books captured my fancy last year. Pssst, they all had new releases too--time to load up the 2024 TBR (their links are in the post)! Gemma and Rikkhe approve 🎀👑
Merry Christmas and all the best in 2024, Veronica! 💕🎄
Thank you, Veronica! Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year!
