26 Miles (Santa Catalina) Twenty-six miles across the sea Santa Catalina is a-waitin’ for me, Santa Catalina, the island of romance, romance, romance, romance. Water all around it ev’rywhere, tropical trees and the salty air, but for me the thing that’s a-waitin’ there’s romance.
It seems so distant, twenty-six miles away, restin’ in the water serene. I’d work for anyone, even the Navy, who would float me to my island dream. Twenty-six miles, so near, yet far. I’d swim with just some water wings and my guitar. I can leave the wings but I’ll need the guitar for romance, romance, romance, romance.
The Four Preps
So excited to be on our island adventure on beautiful Catalina Island! We’re staying once again in a condo in Hamilton Cove, just a mile or so outside the town of Avalon. I love the view from our balcony, and those cool ocean breezes are just the thing to kick back and stay cool. This visit we’re going up to what was once the Wrigley Mansion, and is now the Inn on Mt. Ada Bed & Breakfast, for a luscious lunch overlooking the beautiful port of Avalon. I’ve passed by this lovely estate many times and can’t wait to tour the grounds and see some of the rooms. There’s plenty to do here on this island getaway: submarine rides, zip-line adventures, parasailing, and some very #yummy restaurants. Best of all, plenty of time to #read and get inspired!
We’ve been busy sorting through the items brought back from our former beach home the past few weeks, purging everything that no longer fits our #Hygge style. I have to laugh–I think during our 13 year stay there I must have accumulated every single item know to woman that has a beach theme, LOL. Seriously, lighthouse salt and pepper shakers, a crab bell (don’t ask), mermaid everything. and sea shell glasses, signs, placemats…definitely a #WhatWasIThinking moment. 🙂 It’s Wednesday, time for #DearDiary:
#AmQuerying: The queries are being sent out each day, let the countdowns begin! I’m super excited and look forward to the responses and feedback. But in the meantime…
#AmMarketing: It’s great to be working with Women Writers (@WomenWriters) once again during the month of August. It’s a great forum and a wealth of information for both #writers and #readers. I’ve penned a new article and look forward to the social media interaction, Barbara Bos is a delight to work with! Check out their site (and take a look at my guest interview from March) here:
I was back in the Hamptons and in a new world this week courtesy of the writers of Twitter..
Author Tina-Marie Miller, The Curious Miss Fortune, (The Hamptons, Book 2) 5 STARS
Family drama, wicked intentions, and loads of wit and humor sets the scene for a delightful read featuring the always entertaining residents of the Hamptons. Excitement’s in the air for the new play as the Hampton Players prepare for their debut. Everyone has an opinion as to how things should be done, will the power struggles bring the production to a grinding halt before the big night? Famed actress Diane Fortune makes her theatrical return to the stage after facing the wrath of her son–will she be welcomed with open arms?
Tiggy Lawrence makes a heart wrenching return to her family home and is surprised to find it in disrepair. Her father is dying and longs for her to stay, will they be able to restore the home and grounds to their former glory with their final collaboration? Suitors are plentiful and vie for her attention, but for one, all is not what it seems. Will Tiggy escape his dubious clutches and find her true love?
I enjoy The Hampton series books so much. Author Tina-Marie Miller brings the tales of the residents to you with heartwarming details and dialogue that makes you laugh and cry as they face their life challenges, dangers, and find hew loves and passions. It’s a great series, highly recommended—I can’t wait for the next book!
#AmReading Author Emmy Bennett’s ARC, Different Shade of Wynter
I wanted to give a quick #Writer #Shoutout to Author Emmy Bennett (@EmmyRBennett). I’ve been privileged to read her ARC for Different Shade of Wynter this week. Next up in the reading queue:
Flash fiction fun with the fabulous Author Bibiana Krall!
Had a great start to the week with a #FlashFiction write-off with Author Bibiana Krall. We pick a picture that inspires us–there are no ‘rules’ (except for a 100 word limit). For this week’s challenge, the main characters from our latest #WIPs inspired the mini-stories. It’s always fun, and I love #reading what we come up with. Must keep those little gray cells churning! Catalina Tiles, Love Those Colors!
One of my favorite things to do in Avalon is to peruse the merchandise in the quaint shops. Many of them offer the Catalina ceramic tiles that have been designed and made on the island. They’re featured in many public areas–fountains, benches, building facades, and lend a great pop of color to whatever they adorn. Definitely will leave room in my suitcase to take a few of these lovelies home!
Crowns and Kisses,
Veronica
P.S. If you get the chance, boat on over to Catalina Island for a taste of island life. A daytrip is doable from many ports in the LA and Orange County areas–a great way to spend a summer day! Gemma would approve! 🙂 https://www.catalinachamber.com/island-info/
